Gladstone Hospital gets new Orthopaedic Clinic

Gladstone Hospital is introducing a specialist orthopaedic clinic today, reducing the need for patients to travel away for treatment. Executive Director Gladstone-Banana Jo Glover said specialists would run clinics twice a week, providing assessment and review of all orthopaedic patients locally in Gladstone.

Missed appointments cost the community

More than 3000 people failed to attend their appointments at Gladstone Hospital’s Specialist Outpatients Department last year. In the past 12 months, 3017 appointments were missed, including 1052 new appointments, and 1965 review appointments.

Gladstone Hospital supports indigenous patients

Gladstone Hospital’s new Indigenous Liaison Officer Maddisan Hooper is a woman with a mission, providing advocacy and cultural support for Indigenous patients. Maddisan has been in the new role for three weeks and is finding her new job very rewarding.

Breast is best at Gladstone Hospital

Gladstone Hospital is a proud baby-friendly environment and the Maternity team is about to face its second Baby Friendly Health Initiative (BFHI) accreditation. The team achieved its first successful accreditation in 2012 and two experts will visit the hospital at the end of August to assess the support and information provided around babies and breast-feeding.

EOI Consumer Advocacy Group (CAG)

Expressions of interest are invited for appointment to the Consumer Advocacy Group (CAG) from members of the Gladstone and Banana Shire area. The Consumer Advocacy Group is a volunteer forum aimed at strengthening the capacity of consumers, carers and the community to engage and participate in key activities in the Gladstone and Banana hospital and health service.

Gladstone Hospital ED community information

Gladstone Hospital invites all interested parties to information sessions about the planning phase of the hospital’s $42m Emergency Department project. Sessions will be held on Thursday, 7 July, 2016, at Gladstone Entertainment Convention Centre (Conference room 3), at 3pm and 6pm. Staff will be available to answer questions after the 30-minute presentations.

Gladstone Hospital Emergency Department has had an outstanding week, recording near-perfect waiting times. National Emergency Access Target (NEAT) is a key performance indicator allowing comparison for hospitals across the country. It measures the number of patients who are
seen, treated and leave the Emergency Department within four hours.

A merry band of willing helpers is spreading cheer and goodwill at Gladstone Hospital by greeting visitors with a smile. Four members of the Gladstone Hospital Auxiliary volunteer at the information booth at the main Park Street entrance, welcoming visitors and showing directions.
